One of the most beautiful natural formations in Cusco Peru, Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. With (5200 m. / 17.060 ft.). The top of this walk is located at approximately (5000 m /16400 ft.), from where you will enjoy the beauty of the landscape and some isolated communities; interact with the local people who are still keeping the Inca culture alive. The colorful and impressive sandstone mountains are a gift from the Pacha Mama, theVinicunca area is probably the coolest thing you will see in Peru.

RAIMBOW MOUNTAIN TREK OVERVIEW

DAY 1: CUSCO – KAYRAWIRE – QESUNO – ANANTA

Pick up from your hotel at 5:00 AM, then our private van will take to you until Qayrawire community, place where we will start our adventure.(3600m / 11.810 ft.).

Itinerary

Our Itinerary is as follows:

ONE DAY BEFORE THE TREK:

Briefing/ smoothllamaperu Cusco office.

It will be in our office which is located at Street Lizandro Montero Ñ – 4

All travelers are required to visit the Cuzco office for a mandatory briefing on your trek one day prior to departure at 6:00 pm. At this meeting you will receive detailed information on the route, a list of what to bring, confirm your pick-up for the morning of the trek and be able to ask questions. However, if you wish to receive all the information in your hotel, let us know and our guide will kindly approach your hotel for the informative meeting.

DAY 1: CUSCO – KAYRAWIRE – QESUNO – ANANTA

Our adventure starts very early with our team picking you up from your hotel at 5:00 AM, then we set out on our drive through the South Valley for about 2 hours until Pitumarca community (3600m / 11.810 ft.), here we will take our delicious and hot breakfast, after that we are going to continue driving 1 more hour to Qayrawire community, place where we will start our adventure.

We are going to start our expedition by the opposite way of the people who do normally the full day rainbow mountain trek, the first part of trek will be easy walk until Quesuno village, we are going to surround the mountain following the river and having a pretty view of hundreds of alpacas and llamas, many baby alpacas, Andean farmers who are keeping our Inca culture, traditions, custom.  Beautiful Apu Ausangate snow Mountain (6371m / 20.901ft.) it shows up at a distance, after a nice hike we will reach to our campsite and lunch spot as well, Ananta village (4200m / 13.779ft). After our delicious Peruvian meal you have a free afternoon, you are able to explore around the area, if we are lucky we will see vicuñas and the Andean Condor, then we have afternoon tea or coffee at our campsite, which is located at the base of the Andes Mountains, this night you are able to see an unforgettable night sky full of constellations, shooting stars, and keep yourself war with hot coca tea.

DAY 2: ANANTA – 3 LAGOONS – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – KAYRAWIRE – CUSCO

Today is what you have been waiting for; a coca tea delivered to your tent wakes you up at 4:00am, before your final climb around 1 hour and 30 minutes to the summit of warmisaya pass (4780m / 15.682ft), then we descend to see the amazing three lagoons, and then is our final climb to Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) (5050m / 16.568ft.). Upon arrival around 8:30AM, from here the spectacular view of the famous Rainbow Mountain and the amazing 360 degree vistas of the surrounding lands, these mountains are special and really are something quite different from any other mountains in the Vilcanota Range, This is definitely one of the key tourist highlights in entire South America, and one of the most beautiful natural formations in the Andes of Cusco – Peru. There is nothing else like it.

After enjoy the beauty of the nature around you, it truly is a magical place. We start an easy downhill for around 1 hour and 30 minutes until our lunch spot, after enjoy a delicious lunch our vehicle will take us back to Cusco (3 hours), we typically get back at Cusco around 5pm 6pm and drop you off at your hotel.

WHERE CAN I LEAVE MY LUGGAGE SAFETY?

Of course! During “Rainbow mountain trek 2 days”. Your large luggage can be store at our office or at your hotel, both are for free. Please do not pack anything you will need for your hike.

HOW TO BOOK THE RAIMBOW MOUNTAIN TREK?

WHAT ABOUT THE PAYMENT BALANCE?

It would be greatly appreciated if you pay in cash at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. We have many cash machines in the historical center to withdraw money.  You can also pay by VISA or PAYPAL online but you will have to pay a 6% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE DEPARTURE DATE?

With alternative treks like the Rainbow Mountain Trek we may be able to change dates for a fee depending on what has been already purchased.  Please contact the office as soon as possible if you need to change your date.

HOW CAN I AVOID THE ALTITUDE SICKNESS?

For those trekkers that come to Cusco directly from places at sea level; we recommend arriving 2-3 days before your trek. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are: The Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and stomach pain provoked by slow digestion.

In general if you have regular exercise and spend a couple of days in Cusco, or in the Sacred Valley for acclimatization to the altitude, you may be fine.

The recommended medicine for altitude sickness is WATER, COCA TEA and OXYGEN IF NEEDED; our guides are trained to treat you for Altitude Sickness.

HOW DIFFICULT IS THE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN 2 DAYS TREK?

Yes, it is a difficult trek due to the high altitude and some sections can be steep, you reach the altitude of (5050 m /16.586ft.)  You need to be in good physical condition and had time to adjust to the altitude before going on the trek.

In preparation: try walking 15kms in a day or go to the fitness club in the months leading up to the trek. It is also important to be well acclimatized to the altitude. Try to spend at least 3 days in Cusco (3350m/11,047ft) prior to starting the trek.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SOME ONE IS UNABLE TO FINISH THE TRAIL?

In the scenario that you are unable to finish the trek due to a health issue, smoothllamaperu will assist you to the nearest town for help with transportation. If you are unable to finish due to fatigue you can rent a horse. We always carry oxygen on the trek for any respiratory problems. There are no refunds in the unlikely situation that you are unable to finish the trek.

WILL THE CAR IS GOING TO DROPP OFF US AT THE HOTEL?

Absolutely!! Included in the package we will drop you at your hotel in Cusco! If you have booked your hotel in the Sacred Valley like Ollantaytambo or Urubamba, we will drop you there too!

WHAT ABOUT TIPPING?
