SACRED VALLEY & MACHU PICCHU OVERVIEW

DAY 1: CUSCO – PISAC – URUBAMBA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

Pick up from your hotel at 7:30am, and then we set out on our drive through the sacred Valley of the Incas. Afterwards by train to Aguas Calientes town.

Itinerary

ONE DAY BEFORE THE TREK:

Briefing/ smoothllamaperu Cusco office.

It will be in our office which is located at Street Lizandro Montero Ñ – 4

All travelers are required to visit the Cuzco office for a mandatory briefing on your trek one day prior to departure at 6:00 pm. At this meeting you will receive detailed information on the route, a list of what to bring, confirm your pick-up for the morning of the trek and be able to ask questions. However, if you wish to receive all the information in your hotel, let us know and our guide will kindly approach your hotel for the informative meeting.

DAY 1: CUSCO – PISAC – URUBAMBA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

Our adventure starts early in the morning with our team picking you up from your hotel at 7:30am, and then we set out on our drive through the sacred Valley of the Incas,

In 30 minutes of ride we get cross Cusco valley, Corao valley and the main Inca valley (folkloric name called inter-Andean valleys) Afterwards, we will continue heading to “El Mirador Del Valle Sagrado”. This lookout of the valley will give you a perfect opportunity to photograph the Andean mountain range and the Sacred Valley of the Incas with crops dressing the mountains like a carpet, all together. Forward we drive to the Archeological site of Pisac for 45 minutes.

PISAC

Pisac archeological site is one of the most fascinating Inca buildings in Cusco region, where we can see the terracing system which harmoniously blend into the natural curvature of the mountain, is beautiful and unique, looks like unreal the views from there, we have a walk to explore some Inca constructions that are compounding the Inca park, like the Inca guard houses, the old Inca trails, water fountains, water channels, the biggest Inca cemetery with more than 3000 tombs and many other ritual places of this majestic Inca citadel, once finished we head back to the colorful market of Pisac, Forward we drive to the Pisac Market for 15 minutes.

PISAC MARKET

Pisac is located at the entrance of the sacred valley; it is quaint and scenic Inca village that is famous for it´s being the largest and inter – Andean pre – Columbian style handicraft and textile marked in the region of Cusco. This is one of the most famous craft fairs of the continent, where you can interact with local artisans and find all kinds of Cusquenian crafts such as pottery, straw hats, Alpaca goods of all types, such as sweaters, gloves and much more, musical instruments, paintings, antiques, a huge silver jewelry, decorations, art works, among others which are made right there, Forward we drive to Urubamba town for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

OLLANTAYTAMBO TOWN

Ollantaytambo is a district located in the sacred valley of the Incas, here is an appropriate place for a traditional Peruvian lunch (included), surrounded by high Andean peaks, after our delicious lunch we continue with the journey towards Sanctuary of Ollantaytambo.

OLLANTAYTAMBO INCA SITE

Right here the Inca Ollantay builds his fortress/ Sanctuary of Ollantaytambo, Here we will  find the religious sector, Temple of the Sun, The Royal Hall, Plazas, trails, Baños de la Princesa  (princess baths), farming areas, the main Inca door, the ornamental windows, surrounded towering mountain peaks and colorful valleys (plus a view of a faraway glacier), by the other side the Incan city, where the people maintain the preservation of their streets, houses, and irrigation canals which are all still in use. This town is the most well-preserved layout of a typical Incan-built city with its narrow, cobbled streets and stone walls, its conservation allows for the enduring legacy of the Incan people to live on for us today.

In the afternoon we need head to the train station and catch the train to Aguas Calientes town; it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes approximately, once you are there our guide will take you to the hotel, later on dinner in one chosen restaurant.

DAY 2: AGUAS CALLIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – BACK TO CUSCO

Waking up early, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu archeological site, for 30 minutes, New 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The tour guide   will teach you about all the history of this mysterious and mystical place of Machu Picchu, that will take approximately 2 hours, and then on your own, you can wander around the town squares of the world’s spiritual center of esoteric wisdom.

 When you are ready, you will descend to Aguas Calientes town; have a leisurely lunch on your own, and later on board the train to Ollantaytambo train station, afterwards our private vehicle to Cusco.

HOW TO BOOK SACRED VALLEY & MACHU PICCHU?

FIRST, to book your “Sacred valley & Machu Picchu”, we need you to fill out our booking form by clicking on BOOK NOW on our homepage or click here the link BOOK NOW.

To book your “Sacred valley & Machu Picchu”, we need the following information (FROM EACH PARTICIPANT in your group).  We cannot purchase an Inca Trail permit without the following information:

  • Personal information (your full name, exactly as on your passport):
  • Gender

  • D.OB. (dd / mm / yyyy)
  • Nationality

SECOND, we require a deposit of US$200.00 per person in order to purchase a permit for the “Short Inca trail trek to Machu Picchu”.  You can make you deposit by clicking on the VISA or PAYPAL symbols on the top of our home page, or you can click on the VISA or PAYPAL symbols on our booking page or click here on the payment of your choice, either VISA or PAYPAL.

WHAT ABOUT THE PAYMENT BALANCE?

It would be greatly appreciated if you pay in cash at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. We have many cash machines in the historical center to withdraw money.  You can also pay by VISA or PAYPAL online but you will have to pay a 6% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. WHO QUALIFY FOR THE STUDENT DISCOUNT?

Those passengers who booked their trip using the discounted price for ISIC Student Holders must bring their original and valid CIIU card (not a copy and not expired). This document must be shown at the Inca Trail Control Gate. Unfortunately, if you do not bring your card, you will be denied entry to the Inca Trail as the permits won’t be valid without your card.

SCHOOL STUDENT

With the passport or national ID – original ones, from 8 to 17 years old

  1. According to Peruvian Law you must be under 18 years of age at the time of your trek, tour, or visit to Machu Picchu For example if you book a trek at the age of 17 but you turn 18 before you do your trek, you do not qualify for a student discount.
  2. All students from 11 to 17 years, the discount is $30.
  3. For children from the age of 2 to 11 the discount is $40.
  4. All students must provide a copy of their passport at the time of their booking to get the student discount.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT ABOVE 18 YEARS OLD

With the original student ID gives from the university in PVC material and it must have the next requirements: university information, personal student information, student picture, and expiration date valid only for one year, it year must coincide with the year that student visit Machu Picchu, the discount until 25 years old.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE DEPARTURE DATE?

Unfortunately the answer is “No”. Once the tickets have been bought for the “Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu”, the government does not allow any changes, Due to the strict regulations of the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, once your reservation is made; you cannot cancel the reserved space that you have.

*** If you cancel your “Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu, the deposit is not refundable at all!

IS IT NECESRY MY ORIGINAL PASSPORT ON THE SACRED VALLEY & MACHU PICCHU?

Yes for sure! You have to bring your original passport and it is very important that it is the same passport number you sent to us to book “Short Inca trail trek to Machu Picchu” permit. The rangers will check when you enter Machu Picchu. The train company will also check your passport before allowing you to board the train. In case you are renewing your passport, go ahead and send us your old number to secure your permit, and we can change it when you get your new passport number…if so, please send the new passport number as soon as possible.

HOW CAN I AVOID THE ALTITUDE SICKNESS?

For those trekkers that come to Cusco directly from places at sea level; we recommend arriving 2-3 days before your trek. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are: The Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and stomach pain provoked by slow digestion.

In general if you have regular exercise and spend a couple of days in Cusco, or in the Sacred Valley for acclimatization to the altitude, you may be fine.

The recommended medicine for altitude sickness is WATER, COCA TEA and OXYGEN IF NEEDED; our guides are trained to treat you for Altitude Sickness.

WILL THE CAR IS GOING TO DROPP OFF US AT THE HOTEL?

Absolutely! Included in our packages is dropping you off at your hotel on the return from your trek or tour. If you have booked your hotel in the Sacred Valley like Ollantaytambo or Urubamba, we will drop you there too!

If you spend the night at Ollantaytambo before the trek, we will pick you up there.
